October 15, 2015: Brenda Smith demonstrated how to make sure your ancestors died in discovering the stories of their lives. Information compiled at the end of one’s life can provide a summary guiding your research deep into the past.
September 17, 2015: Presentation by M. Diane Rogers, founder of Canada Genealogy or Jane's Your Aunt, highlighted how to organize your documentation, analysis, proof and citations.
June 18, 2015: how to plan a trip to Salt Lake City, produce charts and reports using Legacy software, methods for beginner research and sources for First Nations genealogy were highlighted. Member interests will be identified and used for training/speakers in 2015/16.
May 21, 2015: Eunice Robinson, Education Coordinator for the British Columbia Genealogical Society, highlighted Irish Research sources and methodology. She shared 40+ years of experience, including research tours to Salt Lake City, London, Edinburgh and Belfast.
May 2, 2015: Abbotsford Family History Day; Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Abbotsford Stake) offered classes designed to help preserve family history across several generations. The AGS staffed a table with research materials for purchase.
April 14 & 15, 2015: Fraser Valley Regional Heritage Fair (Abbotsford); President Jim McQueen presents the Family History Category award sponsored by the AGS to David Chutskoff for his project "Digging Deep into My Family History."
April 16, 2015: Dr. R. Scott Sheffield and Graduate Student Nathan Williams provided insight into the Fraser Valley History Project. Overtime the University's website will become an accumulative repository of Fraser Valley History.
March 19, 2015: President Jim McQueen demonstrated How to Safely Clean and Accurately Photograph Gravestones. Using an actual headstone, Jim cleaned the marker using simple and inexpensive tools that made the task easier.
March 7, 2015: the AGS hosted Celebrate Your Roots at the Clearbrook Library. AGS Member Brenda Smith used Ancestry Library Edition's online database resource to research family history. Cathy Magee, BC Genealogical Society, offered books, maps and more for purchase.
February 19, 2015: Kris Foulds, Collections Manager, The Reach, highlighted its On-line Photo Archives. Following the General Meeting, Kris explained how to search the collection by place, year, topic and subject.
January 24, 2015: the AGS participated in the ninth Abbotsford Family Literacy Day Read Together Grow Together Celebration co-hosted by the Fraser Valley Regional Library and The Reach Gallery Museum.
January 22, 2015: Member 92 Lorene Lyle was honoured with a Life Membership for exceptional service to the Society. She volunteered at many events and served on the Executive and various committees for many years. Lorene's passion is education: she planned and delivered many sessions.
January 22, 2015: Member 86 Donna Bohnet was presented with a 2015 Honourary Membership by 2014 President Jim Muirhead. Donna served the AGS in a variety of positions. Many of you know Donna from her dedication and involvement in the Membership Committee.
January 22, 2015: Ann ten Cate, Archivists, BC Archives, gave an overview of BC Archives Resources. Following the Annual General Meeting, Ann outlined major record collections and how a genealogist can use them for basic family history, including Vital Events records, court records, police and prisons records and health records.
